CSSA caseload for March

    The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in March showed a marginal increase of 0.1% (404 cases) over February, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (April 11).

     Total CSSA caseload at the end of March stood at 294,204(see attached table), with a total of 517,875 welfare recipients.  

     Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases decreased by 0.4% to 36,744 cases.

     Single parent cases registered a marginal increase of seven cases in March to 38,278, which translated into an insignificant month-to-month increase of 0.02%.

     Low earnings cases showed a month-to-month increase of 0.2% in March to 18,039.
 
     Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was about $17.8 billion for 2005-06.
