The Fund was set up in 1980 with a donation of $10 million from The Hong Kong Jockey Club for the promotion and development of music and dance training and education in Hong Kong.  It is a non-statutory trust fund administered by a Board of Trustees.  In 1994, the Club injected a further $22 million into the Fund to meet increasing demand for support.

The Fund offers scholarships to exceptionally talented candidates to pursue integrated programmes of post-diploma studies, post-graduate studies or professional training in music and dance at world-renowned institutions or to undertake less formal studies, projects or creative work outside Hong Kong.

Since its establishment, about 250 scholarships amounting to around $32.7 million have been awarded to outstanding young musicians and dancers.  Many of the scholarship recipients are now contributing to music and dance in Hong Kong and nurturing new generation of local artists.
