Scaly-breasted Munia tested for H5 virus
****************************************

Preliminary testing of a Scaly-breasted Munia found in Sham Shui Po has indicated a suspected case of H5 avian influenza, a spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said today (February 28), adding that further confirmatory tests were being conducted.

The carcass of the bird was collected by AFCD staff from Fu Cheong Estate on February 25 upon referral from the Housing Department.

A department spokesman reminded people to observe good personal hygiene.

"They should avoid personal contact with wild birds and live poultry and wash their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them," he said.
