Thirty-eight paintings created by rehabilitated patients, the elderly and the young will be on display at the Exhibition Gallery of the Dragon Centre from tomorrow (February 15) until February 25 to send blessings to the community.
The exhibition, ¡§Big¡EHappy¡EHeart¡¨, is part of a large-scale community art project jointly organised by the Art Promotion Office (APO) of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and Art in Hospital. It aims to encourage different communities to take part in art activities, share the fun of artistic creation, and spread the message of care and love.
From June to December, 2006, this art project organised more than 100 workshops in schools, various hospitals, convalescent homes, rehabilitation centres, special schools, sheltered workshops, community centres, centres for the elderly and child care centres. Led by local artists and volunteers, participants created more than 1000 pieces of art. It is hoped that different community groups with various levels of ability can express themselves and share their inner needs through the process of artistic creation.
Many participants were unfamiliar with art. Under the caring teaching of instructors and volunteers, they quickly acquired the basic skills of drawing and discovered the fun of creation by giving a free rein to their imagination and creativity. To share their message with the public, the works are now touring various hospitals and community districts, and will finally be on display at hospitals and rehabilitation organisations.
The Dragon Centre is located at 37K Yen Chow Street, Sham Shui Po, Kowloon. The Exhibition Gallery on the eighth floor is open daily from 11am to 8pm. Admission is free.
