SFST promotes Hong Kong in Emirates

    The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Frederick Ma, had a busy programme today (January 29) in Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates where he is leading a delegation to promote Hong Kong as an international financial centre and the city's quality services.

     This is the second leg of the delegation's six-day promotional visit to the Middle East organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. Members spent the previous two days in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

     The delegation comprises some 30 members of Hong Kong's financial services sector and the infrastructure and real estate industry, including legislators representing the insurance and the architectural, surveying and planning sectors respectively, Mr Bernard Chan and Mr Patrick Lau.

     Earlier in the day, the delegation called on the Securities and Commodities Authority and met with the authority's Chief Executive, Mr Abdulla S Alturifi.

     They then visited the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and called on the Governor of the Central Bank of the UAE, Mr Sultan Bin Nasser Al Suwaidi.  

     At Abu Dhabi's Special Economic Zones, the delegation members were briefed by The Higher Corporation for Special Economic Zones on its work in driving economic diversification by developing the Special Economic Zones. The delegation also visited a number of companies there.
