Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (January 16) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions of about $210,000 against an employer in the District Court. Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $20,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by its employer.

     The District Court today issued a judgement against an employer, namely, Ngan Lok Ting trading as Wah Da Transportation Service Co. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $216,108.16, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to five employees of the defendant.

     At the Tribunal hearing today, the defendant, Lik Keung Engineering Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $21,483, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts, awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal, will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payment of $930 for the District Court case and $120 for the Tribunal case as costs in respect of the claims.
