Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital Norovirus cases

    A spokesperson of Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital (PYNEH) made the following announcement today (January 5):

     In the male medical ward in which there were patients with diarrhoea symptoms, one more staff member presented today with symptoms of diarrhoea.

     In the geriatric medical ward in which there were patients with diarrhoea and/or vomiting symptoms earlier, two more patients (one male and one female, aged 74 to 77) have presented with symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting. Two of the seven patients presented with symptoms of diarrhoea and/or vomiting in the geriatric medical ward were found positive to Norovirus.

     All patients are being treated in isolation and all are in stable condition. Staff members are now on sick leave. Appropriate tests are being carried out. PYNEH has stepped up infection control measures in the concerned wards. Admission and visiting arrangement to the concerned wards are suspended.

     PYNEH will continue to monitor the situation.  The cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and Centre for Health Protection.
