Francesca Chan escorts "A Song Journey" with unique musical form
************************************************************

The vocal recital "A Song Journey" is the postlude of the six-lecture series of "A Song Journey - Beginning with Mozart".  Francesca Chan, a renowned local soprano, will  deliver the beauty of art songs in Italian, German, French, Russian, English and Chinese, and the journey will let the audience enjoy and appreciate this unique musical form, past and present.

Chan has worked with some of the world's finest piano accompanists in recitals and radio broadcasts, including Geoffrey Parsons, Graham Johnson, Roger Vignoles, Rudolf Jansen, Clemens Leske and David Harper.  She has also performed with orchestras and choirs in Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and Philippines.

She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where she majored in voice and piano.  She was coached by distinguished teachers and performers in Germany, Italy, France, Britain and the United States.  In 1985, Chan was invited by the Chinese Central Government to give recitals and master-classes in Beijing and Shanghai, and her performances were highly acclaimed.

Over the years, she has been involved in many special anniversary concerts and broadcasts, performing great works of internationally famous musicians. Chan has also premiered in Hong Kong a range of works by contemporary composers. Chan devotes herself with equal energy to singing, teaching and conducting.  She founded the Cantabile Singers with a group of her students, a vocal ensemble well-loved for its purity and harmony of sound. On top of that, she also strives for supporting young singers of today.

Chan's pianist partner Raymond Young is one of the Hong Kong's most active and versatile pianists. Young gives solo and chamber recitals, accompanies singers and instrumentalists, and conducts master classes and lectures in Hong Kong and overseas. He has also adjudicated for various piano competitions and the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and is currently teaching in Hong Kong.
