The Government today (December 22) gazetted the Chief Executive's re-appointment of Dr Choi Yuen-wan as Chairman of the Action Committee Against Narcotics (ACAN), and the appointment of six new members to ACAN.
Seven members of the advisory committee have also been re-appointed.
The term of their appointment are for two years from January 1, 2007, to the end of 2008.
The newly appointed members are Dr Ben Cheung Kin-leung, Dr Hui Pak-kwan, Ms Shirley Marie Therese Loo, Dr Miro Ng Fei-yeung, Ms Amy Blanche Tang Oi-lam and Mr Yeung Yiu-chung.
The Commissioner for Narcotics, Ms Sally Wong, expressed her gratitude to the outgoing members - Dr Henry Au Yeung Cheuk-lun, Prof Cecilia Chan Lai-wan, Mr Ip Kwok-him, Dr Lam Kui-chun, Mr Andy Lam Siu-wing, Prof Kenneth Lee Kwing-chin, Mr Bruce Liu Sing-lee, Dr Tam Wing-kun and Ms Wu Shuk-yin - for their outstanding contributions to the work of ACAN.
"New members' experience and expertise in different professions and fields will bring fresh ideas and momentum to the committee," Ms Wong said.
Among the newly appointed ACAN members, Dr Ben Cheung Kin-leung is a veteran psychiatrist; Dr Hui Pak-kwan is a consultant pathologist at the Kwong Wah Hospital; Ms Shirley Marie Therese Loo is the Development Director of a private publication company specialising in education for children and youth; Ms Amy Blanche Tang Oi-lam is an experienced broadcaster; Dr Miro Ng Fei-yeung is the Convenor of the Preparation Committee of the Post-Secondary Youth Forum under the Commission on Youth; and Mr Yeung Yiu-chung is the Principal of Heung To Middle School (Tin Shui Wai).
ACAN is the Government's advisory body on anti-narcotics matters. It was established in 1965. The full membership list (2007-2008) is as follows:
