The Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr Wu Bangguo, officiated at the opening of the ITU TELECOM WORLD 2006 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this afternoon (December 3).

     Also officiating at the opening ceremony were the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang; the winner of Nobel Peace Prize 2006, Prof Muhammad Yunus, and the ITU Secretary General, Mr Yoshio Utsumi.

     After the ceremony, Mr Wu attended a reception hosted by the HKSAR Government and joined Mr Tsang and Mr Utsumi in a toast to a successful expo.

     Earlier in the afternoon, Mr Wu met Central Government officials based in Hong Kong and senior executives of Hong Kong-based Chinese enterprises.

     He will leave Hong Kong tomorrow morning.
