The Secretary for Security, Mr Ambrose SK Lee, today (November 27) exchanged views with Yuen Long District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC) members on a number of law and order issues including domestic violence, juvenile crime and Mainland women engaged in illegal sex activities.

Attending the Yuen Long DFCC meeting, Mr Lee said the Government had been seriously adopting a "multi-disciplinary collaboration" approach to deal with domestic violence, which had become a matter of public concern.

In addition to enhanced education and publicity to increase public awareness of domestic violence, Police would take resolute and prompt action to make arrests if there was evidence suggesting a crime had been committed.

"Police have been refining the procedures for handling domestic violence cases and have also stepped up communication with the Social Welfare Department on case referrals and district co-ordination, with the aim of enhancing professionalism and efficiency in providing prompt and appropriate assistance to affected families," he said.

He thanked the Yuen Long DFCC for its efforts in joining non-governmental organisations to arrange family support programmes for various sectors of the community to underline the importance of family harmony.

Mr Lee said the Fight Crime Committee understood the concern of Yuen Long residents about the nuisance posed to the local community by illegal sex activities, in particular touting acts, involving Mainland women.

He said the Yuen Long Police had spared no effort in joining the Immigration Department to conduct raids on premises used for vice purposes and to step up enforcement action against two-way permit holders involved in illegal sex activities.

Mr Lee added that the Police had also actively arrested Mainland prostitutes touting customers on roadsides to reduce their chances of being controlled by triad members and the nuisance to residents.

On the impact of juvenile crime on Tin Shui Wai, Mr Lee said the Yuen Long Police had set up a special task unit comprising experienced anti-triad police officers to carry out special night operations at Tin Shui Wai public housing estates to curb such crimes.

Mr Lee thanked the Yuen Long DFCC for their co-operation with the Police, non-governmental organisations and schools in formulating fight-crime strategies, enhancing communication with young people and encouraging and financing agencies to organise fight-crime activities.
