SCS commends 75 civil servants for meritorious service (with photos)
************************************************************

The Secretary for the Civil Service (SCS), Miss Denise Yue, presented awards to 75 civil servants for their meritorious achievements today (November 27). The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, joined them at a cocktail reception to express his appreciation of the award recipients.

Extending her warmest congratulations to the awardees from 37 departments at the presentation ceremony, Miss Yue thanked them for their contributions towards the Government, their departments and most importantly to the community.

She said: "The Administration highly values the contribution of our civil servants. Apart from giving due recognition to our outstanding colleagues through various commendation schemes, we also publicise the good work of individual civil servants through different channels.

"The Chief Executive has also paid tribute to civil servants in his Policy Address recently. He has pointed out that Government departments have implemented effective cost-saving measures while maintaining high quality services," she said. "This bears witness to the fact that the Hong Kong civil service is among the finest: a deep-rooted service culture, corruption-free, efficient and well disciplined."

She was also confident that civil servants would continue to serve the Government and the community of Hong Kong with unswerving loyalty and dedication.

The administration is committed to upholding high standards of performance and conduct in the civil service. To enhance the performance management and commendation systems, the SCS's Commendation Scheme was introduced in early 2004. Through the award, the SCS will, on behalf of the administration, recognise selected civil servants for consistently outstanding performance. This is the third presentation ceremony for the scheme since its introduction.
