FS speaks on Hong Kong's Competition Policy

    Following is the transcript of a media session by the Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, after attending the Public Forum on the Way Forward for Hong Kong's Competition Policy at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre this afternoon (November 21) (English portion):

Reporter: (How would you describe Hong Kong's current economic situation?)

Financial Secretary: Recently, the IMF gave us a report under Article 4 consultation, which is kind of like a health check of our economic situation. In the report, it supported many of the policies we have introduced or maintained, such as the linked exchange rate. But it especially complimented us that our macro-economic management has been very skilfully implemented. I would like to think of it as an IMF seal of approval for Hong Kong's way of macro-economic management. We will continue to be vigilant, we will continue to do everything we can to maintain a robust, healthy economic growth with moderate inflation, and with creating jobs by the market as one of our core goals. This is the kind of policy we will pursue and will continue.
