All Hong Kong residents are invited to have their cameras or mobile phones ready at all times to capture some unique images for a photo competition to launch a series of activities to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR).
The organisers are looking for photographs conveying Hong Kong's successes in the past decade and the successful implementation of "One Country, Two Systems", as well as the can-do attitude and entrepreneurial spirit of the Hong Kong people.
The competition, which will run from November 15, 2006 until January 12, 2007, will be held at district and territory levels. It is organised by the Home Affairs Department and Information Services Department, with 18 District Offices as co-organisers.
A spokesman for the Home Affairs Department said that through the district-level contests, participants could learn more about their districts and be more aware of people and things around them, thereby building up their sense of belonging to their respective district and Hong Kong as a whole.
The competition is divided into three categories - Open, Youth and Mobile Phone.
The Open Category is open to people aged 18 and above, while the Youth Category is open to those aged 10 to 17. Entrants in these two categories will have two chances to win -- at district and territory levels. For the Youth and Open categories, entries can either be film photos or digital photos of 5.0 mega pixels or above.
Each of the 18 districts will return five winners each for the Youth and Open categories who will automatically enter the territory-wide competition. At the territory level, there will be one Champion, First Runner-Up, Second Runner-Up and 10 Awards of Merit for each of the three categories.
Copies of a leaflet containing the entry form for the Open and Youth Categories are now available at the Public Enquiry Service Centres operated by the 18 District Offices. The Mobile Phone Category will be held only at the territory level. Photographs taken with a PDA will also be accepted. Entries should be in full colour, and sent via email to 10@photo.isd.gov.hk together with the entrant's personal email address and nothing else.
Cash prizes, gift coupons ranging from HK$300 to HK$7,000 and trophies will be awarded to the winners.
Winners will be notified individually by email or by phone in March 2007 and invited to attend a prize presentation ceremony.
Winning entries will be displayed on the website, www.gov.hk/10, and at venues to be announced later.
