SCIT to attend APEC Ministerial Meeting in Hanoi

    The Secretary for Commerce, Industry and Technology, Mr Joseph WP Wong, will leave Hong Kong tomorrow (November 14) for a five-day visit to Hanoi, Viet Nam, during which he will attend the 18th Ministerial Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) on November 15 and 16.

     During the ministerial meetings, ministers will exchange views on measures to strengthen the Multilateral Trading System, and issues on Regional Trade Agreements and Free Trade Agreements.

     Other major topics of discussion will include trade facilitation, counter-terrorism, APEC Reform, Intellectual Property Rights, and anti-corruption. Mr Wong will also take the opportunity to meet his ministerial counterparts to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues.

     While in Hanoi, Mr Wong will host a reception for business leaders from Hong Kong, in which the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, will also attend.

     Mr Wong will also give support to the Chief Executive for his APEC Economic Leaders' Retreat meetings on November 18 and 19, and attend the APEC CEO Summit on November 17 at which President Hu Jintao will give a keynote speech.

     Mr Wong will return to Hong Kong on November 19.
