Opening Ceremony for Redevelopment Completion cum 45th Anniversary of Castle Peak Hospital
*******************************************************

The Opening Ceremony for the Redevelopment Completion and Hospital Open Day of Castle Peak Hospital (CPH) was held today (November 11).  This year is also the 45th Anniversary of the Hospital.

The Redevelopment was funded by the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust at HK$500 million and the SAR Government at a sum of $1.47 billion.  Ward buildings, out-patient service block, administrative block, together with other facilities for rehabilitation of patients are provided after the project.  The redevelopment project started off in 1992 and lasts for over 10 years.

Castle Peak Hospital, since its establishment in 1961, has been continuously improving and enhancing its service.  The redevelopment project provides opportunities for the Hospital to enhance the rehabilitation environment.  Facilities and services could be upgraded and better matched the community needs.  The Hospital now provides comprehensive psychiatric services including out-patient, in-patient, community outreach and mental health education.  The Hospital now provides over 1,300 beds with a design of a more home-like environment for the patients.  An overall green environment is also one of the important elements in the project to facilitate the rehabilitation of patients.

The Opening Ceremony was officiated by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food, Dr York Chow; the Chief Executive of the Hospital Authority, Mr Shane Solomon; the Director of Architectural Services, Mr Yue Chi-hang; the Chairman of the Hospital Governing Committee of CPH, Professor John Leong; the Cluster Chief Executive of the New Territories West Cluster, Dr Albert Lo; and the Hospital Chief Executive of Castle Peak Hospital, Dr Joseph Lee.

"From Hospital to Community ¡V the New CPH" is the slogan of this year celebration, which expressed the Hospital¡¦s strong mind in serving the community and going into the community.  As for the previous Open Days of CPH, it attracted around 3000 visitors each time, which demonstrated that the public wishes to learn more about mental health information and service.

Other programmes at the Open Day today included games, educational exhibition and talks, visit to wards and facilities, performance by the Hospital Authority Chinese Orchestra and other performances by our clients and different group of volunteers.
