Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 31) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at around $160,000 against an employer in the District Court.  Meanwhile, the MPFA pursued one claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $2,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by the employer.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against an employer, Hang Lee Food Products Limited who was ordered to pay the MPFA $161,178.02, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to six employees of the defendant.

     At the Tribunal's hearing today, the defendant, Li Yam Wong trading as Kam Kwong Water & Electric Eng. Co., was ordered after trial by the Adjudicator to pay the MPFA $2,081.80, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharge payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payments of $930 for District Court case and $254 for Tribunal case as the costs in respect of the claims.
