The following is issued on behalf of the Judiciary:

     The Judiciary today (October 25) announced the appointment of the Hon Mr Justice Robert Tang Ching, Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court, as Vice-President of the Court of Appeal of the High Court with effect from November 1, 2006.

     The biographical notes of the Hon Mr Justice Tang are as follows:

     Mr Justice Tang was born in Shanghai in 1947. He was called to the English Bar in 1969 (Gray's Inn) and the Hong Kong Bar in 1970 and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1986. He was in private practice from 1970 to 2004. He was called to the Bar of the State of Victoria, Australia, in 1984. He was called to the Bar of the State of New York in 1986. He was admitted as Barrister in Singapore in 1992. He was appointed Judge of the Court of First Instance of the High Court in 2004 and Justice of Appeal of the Court of Appeal of the High Court in 2005.
