Progress of settlement offer to doctors
***************************************

The Hospital Authority (HA) issued the following announcement today (October 18) on the progress of the offer of compensation package to public hospital doctors:

On August 19, 2006, HA put forward a personalised letter to over 4,322 doctors currently working in public hospitals requesting them to accept a settlement offer with regards to the High Court ruling on their claims for work hours and rest days.  Eligible doctors are given two months to consider the offer and are required to confirm their acceptance on or before today (October 18).

As at 6pm today (October 18), 3,622 (84%) eligible doctors have indicated their acceptance of the offer, while 36 (0.8%) have rejected.

The Chairman of HA, Mr Anthony Wu, said it is encouraging to see such a positive response rate and would like to thank the doctors for their support and acceptance of the settlement offer.  He also urged those doctors who have not responded to accept the offer before mid-night today when the offer officially closes.
