10 people nominated for Labour Advisory Board election

    The Labour Department has received 10 nominations of candidates from registered employee unions for the election of employee representatives to the Labour Advisory Board on Saturday, November 4.

     The election will be at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.  The employee unions registered as electors will elect five representatives to the board for a two-year term starting next January.

     The nominees for the election are:
*    Leung Chau-ting       Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Civil Service Unions

*    Ip Wai-ming           Deputy General Secretary of the Staffs & Workers Union of Hong Kong Civil Airlines

*    Chung Kwok-sing       General Secretary of the Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

*    On Hing-biu, Peter   Vice-Chairman of the Hong Kong Civil Servants General Union

*    Ng Wai-yee           Deputy President of the Hong Kong Clerical Employees General Union

*    Lee Tak-ming          Director, Education Department of the Hong Kong & Kowloon Trades Union Council

*    Man Sai-kit           Chairman of the Public Services Employees General Union

*    Leung Suet-fong       President of the Jewellery Employees' Association

*    Wong Ka-ngai          Secretary of the Hong Kong Tour Guides General Union

*    Gurung Lok Bahadur   Secretary of the Hong Kong Workers Union

     Meanwhile, 378 employee unions have registered with the department as electors for the election.  Each elector has appointed authorised representative(s) to take part in the voting on election day.

     The Labour Advisory Board is a tripartite consultative body with members from the employee and employer sectors as well as the Government. Members advise the Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, the ex-officio chairman of the board, on matters affecting labour.

     The board comprises 12 members, six representing employees and six representing employers.  Of them, five employee representatives are returned through election by employee unions while five employer representatives are nominated by employer associations.  The remaining employee representative and employer representative are directly appointed by the Government.
