Interactive fun in Percussion Carnival
**************************************

Percussion Carnival, a Brazil drumming concert featuring Dr Lung Heung-wing and Brazilian percussion maestro Carlos Ferreira, will be presented at Tsuen Wan Town Hall on November 5 and Yuen Long Theatre on November 12. The concerts begin at 3pm on both days.

The performers will play different kind of percussion instruments, such as glockenspiel, marimba and chimes etc. Programmes include Kula Ilimoku, Rosauro's Marimba Concerto, Metamorphosis and Fred No Frevo etc.

Dr Lung will demonstrate how to make rhythm with toys and the body. In the second part of the concert, Brazilian percussion maestro Carlos Ferreira will invite audience members to join their show. The audiences are invited to bring their own small percussion instruments and play along with the artists.

Carlos Ferreira comes from Vila Isabel, a suburb of Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). He started playing the "drums" (old tins that he collected from the streets) at the age of six. Since arriving in Australia in 1985, Ferreira has become one of Melbourne's most exciting and innovative exponents of cross-cultural jazz, combining local jazz styles with Brazilian rhythms.

Also taking part in the concerts are the Hong Kong Percussion Group, World Percussion Ensemble, Island Sun Drum and the young percussion group Four Gig Heads.

Dr Lung won the Outstanding Young Person Award presented by Hong Kong Commercial Radio and was selected as the Instrumentalist of the Year and one of the Hong Kong's 10 Outstanding Young Persons by the Hong Kong Junior Chamber.

In 1997, Dr Lung has teamed up with his young son Mark as a father-and-son percussion duo.  They were featured as soloists in the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Asian and European tours.  The performances won critical acclaim. For group Four Gig Heads, the group played as a guest performer at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival.
