Pianist Julie Kuok to perform classical and new pieces

”@  Talent pianist Julie Kuok will next month (November) give a concert consisting of delightful classical and her own new creative pieces.

”@  Kuok is not only good at piano but she also shows great interest in music composition especially for piano. In the concert, she will play Mozart”¦s ”„Piano Sonata in C, K330”¦, Chopin”¦s ”„24 Preludes, Op.28”¦, Liszt”¦s ”„Piano Sonata in B Minor”¦ and her latest work ”„Bagatelle”¦.

”@  Kuok received her professional music training at the Oberlin Conservatory in Ohio where she obtained her Bachelor Degree of Music with the Pi Kappa Lambda Prize for her dual achievement of excellent academic work and outstanding musicianship.  In 1997, she was the first Hong Kong young musician to be awarded a full scholarship by the British Council to pursue the Master Degree of Music at the Royal Academy of Music in London.  Two years later, she graduated with distinction in her final recital and was awarded the Alexander Roller Prize.  

”@  Kuok had won several prizes in piano competitions including the first prize in both the 1995 Hong Kong Open Piano Competition and the 1996 Hong Kong (Asia) Piano Competition.  She is also the winner of the 1995 Oberlin Concerto Competition and was invited to perform with the Oberlin Chamber Orchestra.

”@  Kuok is now a piano tutor at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Baron School of Music. She is also active in giving public music lectures, master classes and participating as jury in many local piano competitions.

”@  Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the concert will be staged at 8pm, November 12 (Sunday) at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $130 and $90, are now available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients (limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis).
