Micallef-Inanga Piano Duo to perform in November
************************************************

A piano duo is an interesting partnership, with the two pianists/performers facing each other on stage with matching instruments, working closely together as one responds to the other.

Micallef-Inanga Piano Duo will give a concert in Hong Kong next month (November).

The concert will start with Mozart¡¦s Sonata for Two Pianos, followed by Shostakovich¡¦s 1953 Concertino, to mark the centenary of the composer¡¦s birth.  The programme also contains two-piano versions of Ravel¡¦s La Valse and Gershwin¡¦s An American in Paris, together with a Suite for Two Pianos by Rachmaninov, one of the greatest pianists of his generation.

Jennifer Micallef and Glen Inanga have been collaborating since 1994 when they began their studies with Aaron Shorr and Martin Roscoe at the Royal Academy of Music in London. Their binding chemistry was obvious from the outset, and three years later critics were describing them as ¡§an exceptionally gifted team in terms of ensemble, nuance, sensitivity, elan and musical intelligence¡¨.

In 1995, they won the International Schubert Piano Duo competition, Czech Republic, and were invited to return as jury members the following year, also giving recitals in Brno, Ostrava and other major cities. In 1996, they were awarded the RTZ-CRA Ensemble Prize at the Royal Over-Seas League Competition, London. Success continued with major prizes at international piano duo competitions ¡V the ARD in Munich and Murray Dranoff in Miami ¡V the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa, and awards granted by the Eric Falk and John Tunnell Trusts and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust Recital Scheme.

Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the concert will be staged at 8pm on November 21  at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall.
