*************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) is representing the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in the Shanghai International Mosaiculture 2006 with a display entitled "Striving for the Best".

Under the theme of "The Earth, Our Village", the international event has attracted more than 80 displays from 55 cities in 15 countries - Belgium, Brazil, Canada, France, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Japan, Korea, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America and China.

Shanghai International Mosaiculture 2006 will be held until November 30. Judging of displays is scheduled for November 1.

Covering an area of around 150 square metres, the department's display comprises more than 15,000 plants of Begonia of red, pink and white, featuring a flock of Chinese White Dolphins leaping with vigor and vitality.

The display symbolises the concerted effort of Hong Kong people to strive for the best after the reunification with the motherland.

The garden display will be handed over to the organiser for maintenance after the exhibition.

Launched in 2000, the International Mosaiculture is held once three years. The first two competitions were held in Montreal, Canada.
