New URBTIX ticketing system to be launched in phases
****************************************************

The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD)'s URBTIX will launch its new, user-friendly ticketing system tomorrow (October 9) to gradually replace its current system over the next two months.

Tickets for most events on sale from tomorrow (October 9) will be available under the new ticketing system with a full range of convenient services.

For tickets being sold on the new ticketing system, patrons at home, in the office, or anywhere in the world, can enjoy the new services of more detailed event information, comprehensive seating plan of the performing venues, faster network, instant ticket purchase and best seat selection, on a 24-hours basis.

The new ticketing system is provided by the contractor, CityLine (HK) Limited. Further to the existing 33 URBTIX outlets, the new system helps patrons purchase tickets through the Internet and telephone bookings at the same time.

The URBTIX outlets have been upgraded with new terminals, faster network and customer-oriented monitors to facilitate the display of seat plan and ticketing information over the counters.

The new ticketing system will also provide Internet and telephone booking for all events from the first day of counter sales. Seat availability on the Internet will be the same as that at the outlets.

Detailed event and ticketing information will be shown on the Internet and through monitors at the URBTIX outlets. The new ticketing system will automatically offer the best seats, but customers may also select their own seats from seat plans provided by event presenters.

The system transition is expected to be completed by the end of this year when the new ticketing system has replaced the current system in all event ticketing.

Internet ticketing website is available at www.urbtix.hk and telephone credit card booking hotline is (852) 2111 5999. Tickets will be mailed directly to customers on the next working day.

The existing URBTIX system began operating in 1984 and was last upgraded in 1995. It has earned a reputation for its reliable and convenient ticketing services to event promoters and ticket buyers. URBTIX sold a total of 4.4 million tickets in 2005/06.
