A 23-minute fireworks display will light up Victoria Harbour on Sunday night (October 1) to celebrate the 57th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. A total of 23,888 firing shells will be discharged in the display, beginning at 9.15pm.
The display is sponsored by Mission Hills Golf Club and co-ordinated by the Home Affairs Bureau. The sponsorship amount is over $4 million.
The fireworks display, divided into 10 spectacular scenes and discharged from three barges, is designed to showcase the Mainland's harmony and prosperity. It also celebrates the hosting of 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as Hong Kong organising the 2008 Olympic Games - Equestrian Event.
In scene four, "Olympic Beijing 2008", there will be different forms of "Ring Shells" - "Ring with Shuttle", "Ring with Crossette" and the brand new design "Silver Twisting Ring with Pistil" and "Saturn Five Layers Ring", illuminating the beautiful skyline of Victoria Harbour.
Accompanied by the popular music "William's Overture", scene five "Olympic Equestrian Games" feature fireworks that flow like a swinging horse tail, as well as the fast random moving "Spider Web" and the highspeed "Amber Comet".
For the last scene "Chinese Dragon", the sky will blossom with red, purple, yellow, blue and grass-green peonies. Over 200 shots of "Salute" will add excitement to the grand finale, wishing all the best to the nation and HKSAR.
The display can be seen from many vantage points on both sides of the harbour, including Mid-levels, Central District, Wan Chai, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui East and Hung Hom Bypass.
To increase their enjoyment, viewers are invited to tune in to Radio Television Hong Kong Radio Four (FM 97.6 - 98.9) for synchronised music.
People are urged to help keep public areas clean and to show respect for public property. They are also urged to show consideration in order to make the event a safe one.
