Running from tomorrow (September 30) to December 3 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the exhibition, "Artists and Their Models - Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Paris", features 58 masterpieces - portrait paintings, sculptures and installations - by great artists including Picasso, Matisse, Brancusi, Soutine, Modigliani, Dubuffet, Bacon and Balthus, Adami and Martial Raysse. Pictured is one of the exhibits, "The Poet Mazin" by Marc Chagall. In this portrait of Mazin, a neighbour of the artist, the form of the figure is broken into squares and triangles - a toned-down transformation of the cubist techniques. The abstracted free form marks a breakthrough from traditional realism, and injects new vitality into his work.
