Running from tomorrow (September 30) to December 3 at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, the exhibition, "Artists and Their Models - Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou, Paris", features 58 masterpieces - portrait paintings, sculptures and installations - by great artists including Picasso, Matisse, Brancusi, Soutine, Modigliani, Dubuffet, Bacon and Balthus, Adami and Martial Raysse. Pictured is one of the exhibits, "Young Girl in White, Red Background" by Henri Matisse. The exact measure of colour applied in subtly cut off surfaces of uniform hue in this picture strikes the eye of the viewers. The painting is organised around the distribution of reds and blues, the white hue of the dress and coat, the yellow and warm ochre accents -- which might be a result of the model's amber coloured skin, "a mixed blood Congolese". (It is essential that the copyright-by-line of this artwork: ? Succession H. Matisse ? Philippe Migeat appear next to the image, and the work must not be cropped nor overprinted.)
