Government launches new radio programme for ethnic minorities
***************************************************

The Home Affairs Bureau and Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) will jointly launch a new Indonesian-Cantonese bilingual live radio programme ¡V "Good Morning Indonesians" (Selamat Pagi Indonesians) on Sunday (October 1).

The new show will be within the existing RTHK programme, "Beautiful Sunday".

The programme is mainly entertainment-oriented with music, news, local customs and lifestyle in Hong Kong as the important elements. Special features on cultural differences and "Learn Bahasa Indonesian in a Minute" are also covered. Local Indonesian community members will make regular appearances to talk about their cultural heritage and social inclusion.

"The programme is among the government initiatives to foster ethnic minorities' sense of community belonging and a sense of pride in presenting their heritage to the people of Hong Kong," a bureau spokesman said today (September 28). An equally important objective is to promote the value of multi-culturalism in Hong Kong.

Starting from Sunday, 26 episodes of "Good Morning Indonesians" will be broadcast during "Beautiful Sunday" on RTHK Radio 2 (FM94.8-96.9) every Sunday from 7am to 8am.

Two experienced presenters ¡V Shirley Tsang and Sam Jauhari - will co-present the programme. Ms Tsang is a popular presenter with RTHK and a registered social worker. Mr Jauhari, as the director of a local Indonesian newspaper of Indonesian origin, has a multi-cultural perspective to act as an interface between Indonesian and Chinese listeners.

For enquiries about the radio programme, please call the bureau's Race Relations Unit on 2835 1579 during office hours.
