The Labour Department's two new job centres at Yuen Long and North District will come into operation to provide free employment services from tomorrow (September 28).
The Permanent Secretary for Economic Development and Labour, Mr Matthew Cheung Kin-chung, said, "The Labour Department is fully committed to providing quality and customer-oriented employment services. The two new job centres will mark a milestone in the provision of employment services by the department.
"The Chief Executive announced in the Policy Address last year the setting up of a job centre each in Yuen Long and North District to enable local residents to find jobs in the vicinity. The total number of job centres in the territory will then be increased from 10 to 12.
"The two new job centres will offer a comprehensive range of employment services to both job-seekers and employers in the northern part of the New Territories.
"Vacancy search terminals, telephones, fax machines and computers with internet connection are available in the job centres to facilitate job-seekers to search suitable jobs. They may also fill in the proforma in the computers to prepare resumes and application letters. The whole job-hunting process can be completed all at one stop within the job centres," he said.
"District-based job fairs will be held at these new centres to meet employers' recruitment needs. They can conduct interview with job-seekers right on the spot. These job fairs facilitate employers to recruit the right staff and on the other hand, allow job-seekers in the North District to be employed in the neighbourhood," he added.
The department achieved 113,090 job placements last year, up 31.1% over the year 2004. In the first eight months of this year, the Labour Department placed 79,754 job-seekers, an increase of 12.5% over the same period last year.
The Yuen Long Job Centre is situated on the second floor of Yuen Long Centre, 55 Sau Fu Street, Yuen Long (tel: 3692 5750), opposite Tai Kiu Market. The Sheung Shui Job Centre is located at Units 2001-2006, Level 20, Landmark North, 39 Lung Sum Avenue, Sheung Shui (telephone: 3692 4532), next to Sheung Shui KCR Station.
The opening hours of the job centres are:
Monday to Friday 9am to 5.30pm
Saturday 9am to noon
