Parents reminded to submit POA application forms
************************************************

Parents who wish to apply under the Primary One Admission (POA) System for a Primary One (P1) place for their child in any government or aided school in September 2007 are reminded to submit their application starting from tomorrow (September 25).

A spokesman for the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) said today (September 24), "Parents who wish to apply for a particular government or aided primary school in the Discretionary Places Admission Stage should submit the completed application form with all supporting documents directly to that school during school office hours between tomorrow and Friday (September 29).

"Parents may apply to a school in or outside the school net in which they reside. However, they are advised to take into account possible transport problems when selecting a school not in their neighbourhood."

The spokesman reminded parents to submit only one application form for each child, otherwise their application would be rendered void.

Parents who opt to apply only for Central Allocation should submit the completed application forms and supporting documents between September 25, 2006 and January 19, 2007, to EMB's School Places Allocation Section (Primary One Admission) at 2/F, Lui Kee Education Services Centre, 269 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai.

"To ensure the fairness of the allocation system, if false information is provided by parents to secure a P1 place for their child under the POA System, the application will be rendered void," the spokesman added.

He reminded parents that individual schools would process the applications with sibling(s) studying or parent(s) working in the school first at the Discretionary Places Admission Stage.  Applicants of this category should all be admitted by the school. The school would then allocate school places to the remaining applicants according to the Points System. As such, it is not necessary for parents to waste money and time to prepare portfolios for their children.

Children who have accepted the offer of P1 places in Direct Subsidy Scheme primary schools will not be allocated P1 places in government or aided primary schools through the POA System.
