Customs seizes ketamine from an express air parcel (with photo)

    Hong Kong Customs officers of the Airport Command seized from an express air parcel 8 kg high-graded ketamine, worth about $1.7 million in the market on September 13.

     When inspecting an express parcel sent from Singapore to the Mainland, declared to be carrying food samples, Customs officers found 8 kg high-graded ketamine from eight bags of packaged food products, which were concealed under two bags of rice.

     Investigation is continuing. No arrest has been made so far.

     Hong Kong Customs maintains close co-operation with Mainland and overseas counterparts in fighting cross-boundary drugs trafficking activities.

     Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, the maximum penalty for "trafficking in a dangerous drug" is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
