The Secretary for Justice, Mr. Wong Yan-lung, SC, spoke at a luncheon in New York today (September 15, New York time). The luncheon, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (New York), Hong Kong Association of New York, the New York City Bar Association and the American Foreign Law Association, was attended by members of New York's legal, business, academic and media community. Earlier in the day, Mr. Wong also met with members of the Human Rights Watch to update them on the latest state of rule of law in Hong Kong. During his visit to New York yesterday, Mr. Wong spoke at Columbia University's Weatherhead East Asian Institute on the topic of "Judicial Independence, Rule of Law and Human Rights in Hong Kong" and exchanged views with faculty members and students. Mr. Wong leaves for San Francisco tomorrow.
