During a visit to Washington, D.C., the Secretary for Justice, Mr Wong Yan Lung, SC, met with Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr Antonin Scalia; Attorney General of the U.S., Mr Alberto Gonzales; and Under Secretary for Democracy and Global Affairs, Department of State, Ms Paula Dobriansky.
At the U.S. Supreme Court, Mr Wong and Mr Scalia exchanged views on Hong Kong and U.S. legal systems.
In exchanges today (September 12, Washington time) with Mr Gonzales and Ms Dobriansky, Mr Wong briefed them on the rule of law situation in Hong Kong. They also discussed cooperation between Hong Kong and the US on various legal matters.
Tomorrow (September 13, Washington time), Mr Wong will attend a lunch hosted by the Brookings Institution and give a speech at the Georgetown University Law Center.
