Transcript of CE's remarks on Economic Summit (English only) (with photo)
************************************************************

Following is a transcript of remarks given by the Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, at a media session on the Economic Summit on "China's 11th Five-Year Plan and the Development of Hong Kong" at the Main Wing lobby of the Central Government Offices today (September 8):

Reporter: ..............

Chief Executive: I will be issuing a statement in full. But in short, in preparation for the Economic Summit to be held on Monday, I had a breakfast meeting with the four convenors, together with other relevant officials, to make sure that we have a common purpose - that we have to make sure that whatever is envisaged in the 11th Five-Year Plan of the nation as a whole, will be fully implemented, particularly as regards the "three centres" position of Hong Kong. We are an international financial centre, trading centre, as well as an aviation and shipping centre. Anyway, we had a very good discussion. We discussed how we're going to lead the meeting. But Monday's summit will only be a start. There will be a focused discussion, trying to crystallise our thinking, which we will develop on Monday with a view to developing a fully implementable plan early next year, a plan which is practical. It will not only enhance our position as centres of finance and trade as well as aviation and shipping, but as well as creating more jobs and improving the general standard of living of Hong Kong people as a whole. Thank you very much.
