Death of Stanley Prison inmate
******************************

The condition of a male inmate regularly treated for his chronic diseases, and followed up by outside hospital, was found to have suddenly changed in the hospital observation ward of Stanley Prison about 7.30 am today (September 6).

A Correctional Services Department spokesperson said the inmate was immediately treated by medical staff of the institution. He was then taken to Pamela Youde Nethersole Eastern Hospital where he was later certified dead.

His relative was informed of his death. Police has also been informed of the incident.

An inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

The 51-year-old Chinese inmate, surnamed Keung, had been convicted of robbery and given a seven-year sentence. He was admitted to Stanley Prison in August, 2004.
