The overall Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) caseload in August showed a marginal increase of 0.1% (263 cases) over July, according to the latest CSSA caseload statistics released by the Social Welfare Department today (September 6).
Total CSSA caseload at the end of August stood at 296,831, with a total of 532,041 welfare recipients.
Analysed by case nature, the number of unemployment cases remained unchanged at 39,175.
Single parent cases registered a month-to-month decrease of 0.1% in August to 39,228.
Low earning cases continued to rise in August by 0.2% to stand at 18,470.
Total government expenditure on CSSA payments was $17.6 billion for 2004-05.
