Peter Woo re-appointed chairman of Trade Development Council
************************************************************

The Chief Executive, Mr Donald Tsang, had re-appointed Mr Peter Woo Kwong-ching as Chairman of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) for one year with effect from October 1, 2006, a government spokesman announced today (September 5).

Mr Tsang said Mr Woo had been an outstanding chairman for TDC. Under Mr Woo's able leadership, TDC had done an excellent job in promoting Hong Kong's trade and raising Hong Kong's business profile around the world.

"Mr Woo has spearheaded TDC's efforts in helping Hong Kong's Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in particular make more inroads in mainland and overseas markets, as well as in connecting the world's SMEs through the Hong Kong business platform. Mr Woo is a most effective 'trade ambassador' for Hong Kong," Mr Tsang said.

"We need to reinforce Hong Kong's position as an international trade fair capital. The Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre expansion project undertaken by the TDC is crucial to the future of Hong Kong's exhibition industry."

"This important project will move into a critical phase in 2007. His re-appointment will ensure its smooth implementation," Mr Tsang said.

Mr Woo, 59, is the Chairman of Wheelock and Company Limited and its associate company, Wharf (Holdings) Limited.
