Release of "Primary School Profiles 2006"
*****************************************

The following is issued on behalf of the Committee on Home-School Co-operation:

The Committee on Home-School Co-operation (CHSC) has uploaded the web version (in Chinese and English) of the "Primary School Profiles 2006" today (September 4). The printed version (in Chinese) will be delivered to kindergartens and kindergarten-cum-child care centres from today onwards for distribution to parents with children at Kindergarten Three level of the current school year.

This is the seventh year that the CHSC has issued the profiles, which cover basic information of more than 600 local primary schools. The information includes teaching staff information, school facilities, class structure, school life, extra-curricular activities, school characteristics, etc. The information in the profiles was provided by schools as at June 2006.

The profiles aim to facilitate parents' choice of primary schools by providing them with comprehensive school information. Chairman of the CHSC Professor Wong Po-choi wrote an article entitled "Three Steps in Choosing A Primary School" for the profiles to outline important points for parents to select schools.

The profiles first went cyber in 2003 to enable schools to update their information on the web direct whenever necessary so that parents could obtain the most updated school information.  During the period from September, 2003, to now, the number of browsers is 3.1 million whereas the number of page views of the web profiles is more than 64 million. This reflects the popularity of the cyber version.

Parents of children who will study at Primary One level in September, 2007, will receive the printed version of the profiles for the district where they live in through their kindergartens or kindergarten-cum-child care centres. For children not attending kindergartens or kindergarten-cum-child care centres, their parents may obtain the printed version from the Regional Education Offices and School Places Allocation Section of Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB).

Besides, each kindergarten and kindergarten-cum-child care centre will be provided with two full sets of the printed version of the profiles for parents' reference on schools of other districts.

People are welcome to visit the homepage of the CHSC at http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/ or the direct link to the profiles at http://embhsc.hkedcity.net/primary/ for the cyber version of the profiles.  Copies of the printed version of the profiles will be available at District Offices, public libraries, Regional Education Offices as well as the Central Resources Centre of EMB starting from September 12.

For enquiries about the profiles, please call EMB's Regional Education Offices (Hong Kong: 2863 4646; Kowloon: 3698 4108; New Territories East: 2639 4876; and New Territories West: 2437 7272) or the CHSC Secretariat (3698 4379 or 3698 4376).
