More civil celebrants of marriages appointed
********************************************

The Immigration Department today (August 18) announced the appointment of another 191 civil celebrants of marriages.

Since the appointment of the first batch on April 21, 2006, a total of 884 civil celebrants have been appointed. The updated list of civil celebrants can be found at the Immigration Department website at http://www.immd.gov.hk. The list is also available at the Information and Liaison Section of the Immigration Department, 2/F, Immigration Tower, 7 Gloucester Road, Wan Chai (Tel. No. 2824 6111) and at various marriage registries.

A department spokesman said that from the implementation of Civil Celebrants of Marriages Scheme in April up to the end of July, more than 1,400 couples had filed their marriage notice through civil celebrants and 800 couples had their marriage solemnised by the civil celebrants. The scheme is welcomed by the public because people have more choices and greater convenience in making arrangements for their weddings. It is expected that more intended marrying parties would choose to have their marriages solemnised by civil celebrants during the peak season of marriages later this year.

The Registrar of Marriages has issued an "Information Leaflet for the Marrying Parties", which provides the necessary steps and points to note to intended marrying parties in their selection of civil celebrants to celebrate their marriages. The information leaflet has been uploaded to the Immigration Department website at http://www.immd.gov.hk and people can also obtain the leaflet free of charge at the Information and Liaison Section of the Immigration Department and at various marriage registries.
