The Legislative Council Panel on Environmental Affairs will conduct a 10-day overseas duty visit to Japan, Denmark and Finland from August 22 to 31, 2006.

The purpose of the visit is for the members to acquire first-hand information on the latest development in these countries on the avoidance and mitigation of environmental pollution in respect of waste management, air pollution control and water quality management.
¡@¡@
During the visit, the delegation will visit relevant facilities and meet with government officials and parliamentarians of these countries to exchange views on issues of mutual concerns.
The delegation comprises five members - Panel Chairman and delegation leader Hon Choy So-yuk, Deputy Chairman of the Panel Hon Emily Lau Wai-hing, Panel members Hon Lau Kong-wah and Hon Lee Wing-tat (only joins the Denmark and Finland legs) and non-Panel member Hon Tam Yiu-chung (only joins the Japan leg).

* Meeting with the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG)
* Visit TMG's Ariake Incineration Plant
* Visit TMG's super eco town project for sorting and recycling of construction waste
* Visit Asahi Environment Centre of Kawaguchi City
(B) Sapporo (August 25 to 26)
* Visit four facilities in the Sapporo Recycling Complex
(C) Copenhagen (August 28 to 29)
* Meeting with the Danish Energy Authority
* Visit wind turbines at the Lolland and Falster Islands
* Meeting with the Danish Environmental Protection Agency
* Meeting with representatives from the parliamentarian Committee for environment and spatial planning
(D) Helsinki (August 30 to 31)
* Meeting with the Ministry of the Environment
* Meeting with the Environment Committee of the Parliament of Finland
* Visit Viikinmaki Wastewater Treatment Plant
