Two employers ordered to pay MPF non-payment

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 15) obtained an order for payment of outstanding MPF contributions at around $660,000 against an employer in the District Court. The MPFA today also pursued a claim in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $10,000 on behalf of an employee, who was owed MPF contributions by his employer.

     The District Court today issued a judgment against an employer, namely, Samlane Development Limited. The defendant was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $660,868.66, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 29 employees of the defendant.

     At today's hearing, the defendant, City Above Net Limited, did not appear. In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered the employer to pay the MPFA the sum of $10,484.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts both awarded at the District Court and the Tribunal will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The District Court and the Tribunal respectively further awarded payment of $930 for the District Court case and $200 for the Tribunal case as costs in respect of the claims.
