The Centre for Food Safety (CFS) of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will accept applications for importing chilled pork from the Mainland from tomorrow (August 15).
Under the arrangement agreed by the State General Administration of the Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine and the CFS, stringent control measures will be implemented to ensure that the chilled pork imported is safe for consumption.
"The chilled pork can only come from registered plants in the Mainland where slaughtering and meat processing procedures are strictly monitored."
"And each consignment must also be accompanied with a health certificate issued by the Mainland authorities," a CFS spokesman said.
He said the centre would inform importers about the application procedures and requirements they had to comply with.
The application form can be collected from the Import and Export Unit of the CFS or downloaded from relevant website (http://www.fehd.gov.hk/forms/fehb161.pdf).
