********************************************************

A total of 20,499 Secondary Five (S5) leavers have obtained Secondary Six (S6) places in public sector schools on the first day of the Secondary Six Admission Procedure. Of them, 16,393 were offered school places in Stage I and the rest in Session 1 of Stage II.

A total of 4,938 S6 places in public sector schools are still available for application in Session 2 of Stage II and Stage III tomorrow (August 10).

In Session 2 of Stage II which will take place between 9am and 1pm, students with 14 points or more (best six subjects in one sitting) in the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) can apply to other schools.

The application process in Stage III will be held between 2pm and 4.30pm. Current year HKCEE participants who satisfy the minimum A-Level entry requirements can apply to their own or linked schools.

To help students apply to other schools, the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB) has been releasing S6 vacancy information on the Internet at http://emb.gov.hk/s6ap and by the Interactive Voice Response (IVR) telephone hotline system at 3560 6888. The school codes can be obtained from the EMB Homepage (http://www.emb.gov.hk) or "The Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 5 Graduates".

Students may make use of the computers for public use at public libraries, District Offices, community centres and community halls to access vacancy information on the Internet.

For enquiries about the Secondary Six Admission Procedures, students can call the EMB's central hotline (Tel: 2116 5737).

From the 2005/06 to 2007/08 school years, the EMB has arranged an approved course operator to run evening senior secondary courses on designated Government school premises. Students meeting relevant requirements will be eligible for a reimbursement of 30% or 100% of the course fee where applicable. For application details, please call the Hong Kong College of Technology at 2192 8118.

To help students to join Project Yi Jin, the Federation for Continuing Education in Tertiary Institutions (FCE) will hold an Exhibition/Joint Registration for full-time programmes at the Hong Kong International Trade and Exhibition Centre at Kowloon Bay on August 12 and 13 (from 10am to 6pm) and handle applications.

Students who have successfully completed the programmes will be awarded a full certificate. Holders of the full certificate can further their studies, such as taking courses run by the FCE's member institutions, or seek employment, including applying for more than 30 civil service posts.
