The Government published in the Gazette today (August 4) the proposed Middle Road Subway Extension works that are aimed at providing a comfortable underground pedestrian link connecting the Canton Road area to Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) East Tsim Sha Tsui station.
The project comprises the construction of Middle Road Subway Extension connecting the existing Middle Road Subway, Peking Road Subway and Kowloon Park Drive Subway. The work is scheduled to start in early 2007 and will take about 32 months to complete.
To facilitate the passengers travelling between the KCRC East Tsim Sha Tsui station and the Canton Road and Star Ferry areas, KCRC proposed to construct a cut-and-cover extension to the existing Middle Road Subway to connect to the existing Peking Road Subway and Kowloon Park Drive Subway.
The new subway extension will be installed with travelators. A lift will also be constructed outside of the Kowloon Hotel to provide a comfortable pedestrian route.
KCRC will also undertake to improve the condition of the existing Kowloon Park Drive Subway, to install a lift to replace the existing ramp and to provide an escalator to the entrance adjacent to the YMCA Building.
The plan and relevant scheme are available for public inspection at the following Government Offices during office hours: Central and Western District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, Unit 5, G/F, The Center, 99 Queen's Road Central; District Lands Office, Kowloon West, 10/F, Yau Ma Tei Carpark Building, 250 Shanghai Street; and Yau Tsim Mong District Office, Public Enquiry Service Centre, G/F, Mong Kok Government Offices, 30 Luen Wan Street.
