Death of Sha Tsui Detention Centre inmate

    A 19-year-old male inmate of Sha Tsui Detention Centre (STDC), admitted to Queen Mary Hospital on July 20, was certified dead today (July 25) by medical officer of the hospital, a spokesperson of Correctional Services Department (CSD) said.

     At about 7.30 pm on July 20, the inmate, surnamed Tsui, was found lying on the floor inside his dormitory in STDC in drowsy condition with his four limbs twitching.

     Treatment was immediately given at the scene by medical officer. The inmate was then taken to Queen Mary Hospital by helicopter for further treatment. His family was also informed of the incident.

     Police has been informed of the incident. A death inquest will be held by the Coroner's Court.

     Tsui was admitted to STDC on June 29, 2006 on a charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
