Two new ISD publications on sale at book fair (with photos)
***********************************************************

The Information Services Department (ISD) has published two new books - the eighth edition of the Chinese version of The Birds of Hong Kong and South China, and the government yearbook, Hong Kong 2005 - which are now on sale at the Hong Kong Book Fair.

The latest edition of The Birds of Hong Kong and South China, by Clive Viney, Karen Phillipps and Lam Chiu Ying, has been updated with the principal textual change aligning with The Avifauna of Hong Kong in terms of names and status.

The new edition contains more than 50 sections of families or groups of birds, including a new section on Hainan species. Each section has a general description of the group of birds followed by detailed, individual species accounts.

The book, a classic field guide to birds in the region, has more than 100 colour pages of illustrations by Ms Phillipps.

The English version was published last summer. The Chinese version was translated by Mr Lam, who is the President of the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society as well as Director of the Hong Kong Observatory.

A spokesman for ISD said Hong Kong was regarded as an excellent place to watch birds and the publication was an invaluable reference work for ornithologists and students of the natural world.

The other publication, Hong Kong 2005, is a comprehensive record of events and developments last year.

The 21 chapters of the yearbook are packed with information on a wide range of subjects affecting every aspect of Hong Kong life ranging from economy to commerce, industry, education, health, transport and culture.

There are more than 60 pages of appendices supporting individual chapters and more than 100 photos in 12 colour sections highlighting Hong Kong's diversity, from its cosmopolitan cultural life to its flora and fauna. Other topics featured in the colour sections include young geniuses and Hong Kong's architecture and design.

The Birds of Hong Kong and South China, priced at $158, and Hong Kong 2005, priced at $138, are now available at the ISD booth of the Hong Kong Book Fair at a 25% discount.

The two books can also be purchased from the Publications Sales Unit of the ISD at Room 402, 4/F Murray Building, Garden Road, Central, and designated post offices.  Orders can be made at the online Government Bookstore at www.bookstore.gov.hk or by:
