Bauhinia Cup champions to show new direction in dance

    The "Bauhinia Cup Hong Kong Dance Championship" will be staged on August 18 and 19, at the Ko Shan Theatre at 7.30pm. As well as the champions' performance, the organiser has also invited different dance associations to perform. A cultural exchange between winning groups and local groups and groups from the Mainland and Macau, the performance will highlight the new focus of dance in the new millennium.

     The Third Bauhinia Cup Hong Kong Dance Championship and the First Junior Bauhinia Cup Hong Kong Dance Championship for children are to be held this month. The line-up of dance adjudicators for the competition are Lau Siu-ming, Sylvia Wu, Chu Kit from Hong Kong, Bai Shuxiang, Yang Meiqi and Yang Zida from the Mainland, and Betty Tiltley from Australia.  

     The guest performing groups include Hong Kong Dance Company, international award winning dancers Zhang Zhi and Wang Di (Mainland), Guangdong Vocational College of Literary and Art, Wenhuating Kindergarten of Guangdong Province and Associacao de Dancas de Macau.

     Programmes include "Hope" by Wang Di (winner of first prize in the Japan International Ballet and Modern Dance Competition), "Dream Hangs on a String" by Hong Chan U of the Associacao de Dancas de Macau, "Guia" by Regina Dance Group, "White Silk" from Supressed Romance, "War" from Red Poppies by Hong Kong Dance Company, "Nanhai Dolls visit South Pole"ˇ]Winner of  first prize in the 8th Guangzhou School Dance Festival and "Big Spiders and Baby Rabbits"ˇ]Winner of first prize in the 9th Guangzhou School Dance Festivalˇ^by Wenhuating kindergarten of Guangdong.

     Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the tickets priced $90 and $130 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistant (CSSA) recipients (limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis).
