************************************************************

The "Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 5 Graduates 2006-2007" and "Handbook for Secondary 5 Students: In Pursuit of Job and Continuing Learning Opportunities" will be published tomorrow (July 20) to help Secondary Five (S5) graduates prepare for the release of Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) results.

The handbooks, jointly compiled by the Education and Manpower Bureau (EMB), the Labour Department (LD) and the Hong Kong Association of Careers Masters and Guidance Masters (HKACMGM), provide comprehensive information on further studies, vocational training and careers paths for S5 graduates.

"The Careers Guidance Handbook for Secondary 5 Graduates 2006-2007" outlines the Secondary Six (S6) Admission Procedure 2006, which will start from August 9 (the date of release of HKCEE results), and provides details of S6 courses being offered by secondary schools. The handbook also introduces the Secondary Six Joint Admission Scheme. This year, secondary schools in Tai Po, North, Sai Kung, Sha Tin, Tuen Mun, Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung & Tsing Yi, and Islands Districts will organise Joint Admission Centres to admit students from other schools to their S6. Information about the schools counting the Careers-oriented Course scores in the S6 Admission Procedure is also included for students' reference.

The handbook also provides information about the study path for S5 graduates, S5 courses for repeaters, professional and vocational training courses, sub-degree courses, Project Yi Jin and studying abroad.

Also included are guidance articles contributed by HKACMGM members and a contact list of education and advisory organizations.

"Handbook for Secondary 5 Students: In Pursuit of Job and Continuing Learning Opportunities" is focused on the transition from school to work. It provides tips on choosing career and job search, information on the job market, LD's free employment services, the Youth Pre-employment Training Programme, the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme and various vocational training and continuing learning opportunities.

Students can obtain the two handbooks for free from their own schools (together with a careers CD-ROM produced by LD), EMB's Regional Education Offices, LD's Careers Information Centre and Job Centres and Public Enquiry Service Centres of the Home Affairs Department from tomorrow.

The electronic versions of the handbooks will also be available later at the EMB website at http://www.emb.gov.hk and the LD website at www.labour.gov.hk/careers.

For enquiries, please call EMB at 3698 4347 or LD at 2152 5305.
