The Labour Department is inviting nominations for the Outstanding Disabled Employees Awards 2006 from employers who have engaged disabled employees.
A spokesman for the department said today (July 16) that the awards aimed to give recognition and appreciation to disabled employees who have demonstrated outstanding performance in employment. He said they also helped enhance public understanding of the working abilities of people with disabilities, promoting their employment opportunities.
"The awards also provide an incentive to disabled employees to seek further advancement in work performance," he said.
All employers who have engaged people with a disability, including those with visual or hearing impairments, physical or mental handicaps, chronic illness, or those who have recovered from mental illness, can nominate their employees for the awards. Nominations will close on August 31.
Selection criteria include the overall performance in discharging duties at work, extra efforts in overcoming difficulties/disabilities, devotion to work and accomplishment in employment, other personal achievements and special contributions in public service.
Results of the awards will be announced in November and all winners and their nominating organisations will be invited to attend a presentation ceremony.
"All nominees will be awarded a certificate of commendation. The winners will each be awarded a trophy and a special prize, while their nominating organisations will receive a certificate of appreciation," the spokesman said.
An Enlightened Employers Awards will also be presented to employers who have been offering equal employment opportunities to people with a disability to give recognition to their open policy in human resources management.
Nomination forms can be obtained from the department's Selective Placement Division, G/F, West Wing, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central. They can also be downloaded from the department's website (www.labour.gov.hk/eng/news/content.htm). Enquiries can be made on 2852 4803.
